Batching: Tight Control on the process is required to monitor the composition, grain size and impurity content of each of the raw material used. This is necessary because slight variation can lead to major problems. To help prevent contamination of one material from another, it is important to have dedicated cart and rail car system to transport each of the materials. But in general case, it is not possible to have separate rail car system for transporting each of the raw materials and hence it is common to share the rail car system for transporting the raw materials used. In that case, the rail system has to be cleaned well after using each raw material to prevent the contamination of the other material.
It is a common practise to use recycled glass in the process. This glass can be from the in-house reject scrap or the glass waste from the customers. It is highly important to use the correct proportion of recycled waste glass in process. Colorants are also used to form different coloured end products. The Batching is the most important step in the process as a mistake in this step cannot be corrected later in the process.
