Glass

Glasses are a type of ceramic materials. There is only a small difference in the process of forming ceramic wares and glass wares. The Glasses too start with the powder stage. The raw materials are crushed and powdered, but unlike ceramics were the mixture is sintered at high temperature to form a solid, here for manufacturing glasses the powder is heated to a high temperature to melt the material to form a homogenous liquid. The liquid is then formed into a desired shape and then cooled. The chemical composition of the ceramics and the glasses are almost the same, but there a quite a difference in their properties due to their differences in arrangement of atoms. The primary materials used for glass manufacturing is sand, soda ash, limestone and feldspar. There are two types of glasses “Flat Glass” and “Speciality Glass”.
