General problems encountered in Casting – Casting Defects:
It is important and highly essential that the caster understands the importance of addressing the problems raised during casting be addressed while casting the ceramic ware itself. Few aspects when taken care can actually prevent defects and thereby prevent loss. For example if the dry pressing method uses correct pressing pressure and correct timing gaps between presses a lot of defects like improper powder flowing, problems due to powder sticking to the die, improper firing shrinkage which will there by deform shape can be prevented. Also one major problem in dry pressing is the forming of laminations. Laminations can be formed due to powder not flowing freely during die filling or during pressing. As the laminations do not disappear during firing, it is important to take care that the laminations are not formed during casting by dry pressing. It is also important to make sure that the finishing operation is handled well and good finishing can prevent casting defects.
