Indian China Clay

Clay for Manufacturing Refractory Bricks

Fire clay bricks are produced by mixing crushed grog with sufficient binder clay to produce a mass which can be molded into bricks and which will retain their shape during subsequent drying and burning. The ideal chemical composition of clay for producing bricks should be

Alumina – 37%

Silica – 57.8%

TiO2 – 1.6%

Fe2O3 – 1.45%

CaO – 0.7%

K2O – 0.4%

Also please note that following are the allowable limits of composition in the clay for using it in manufacturing refractory bricks. The Alumina and Silica content should be anywhere between 25 to 45%, TiO2 can be only up to 4%, Fe2O3 cannot be more than 2.5%, CaO should not be more than 1% and K2O cannot be more than 3%. So if the content of clay is anywhere between the above mentioned limits then it can be used for refractory brick manufacturing.
