Improve Kaolin Whiteness
Before getting into the process steps to follow for improving whiteness, let us first discuss how to determine whiteness of the kaolin in laboratory. Whiteness Index and Opacity can be measure using a Commercial Colorimeter. To determine the particle size and finesses of Kaolin, it is necessary to perform granulometric analysis. Granulometric study can be done using a particle size analyzer like Sedigraph. The nature and distribution of iron impurities can be studied by Spectroscopy and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) methods. The main spectrometric parameters are
1. Microwave power
2. Magnetic Field Range
3. Modulation amplitude
4. Gauss and Modulation Frequency.
X-Ray Diffraction analysis has to be performed on the Kaolin sample to determine the dominant mineral impurities. Chemical Composition of the sample can be determined by X-ray fluorescence. . All these laboratory tests on the kaolin sample has to performed to better understand the China Clay Beneficiation process needs.
