China Clay for Paper Industry:

Deferration Treatment by various chemicals removes all the Free Iron content in Kaolin. Of these methods, citrate dithionite bicarbonate treatment (CDBT) is considered the best. The Froth Flotation method can remove up to 15% of iron content and 24% of titania impurity. The CDB can remove upto 23% of free iron content and only 5% of Titania impurity. The output of both the methods will give a similar brightness result in spite of removing ferrous differently. This is because the CDBT method though effective in removing Iron, the titanioferrous remains intact and this affects the brightness.

The SC HGMS method removes almost 30% of the Ferrous Impurities and 29% of the titanioferrous impurities. The improvement in brightness will also considerably high in this method when compared with the Froth Flotation and the CDBT methods. This is because the Titanioferrous impurities are feebly magnetic due to the presence of iron and this can be removed by the high gradient magnet along with the Free iron content. Thus the removal of both structural and Free iron impurities in this method makes it more effective than the froth flotation and CDBT method.
