The ball clay available in Santalpur area near Kutch is of very high plastic in nature and the firing shrinkage for this clay is very high and it can not be used in ceramic body formulations in higher %. More over the rheological characteristics also very poor and thus using this clay in slip casting body formulations causes more problems.
This clay can be blended with lean and medium low shrinkage type clays and beneficiated. This way of beneficiation will improve its rheological characteristics and shrinkage behavior and the clay can be used for porcelain insulator body formulations.
