Silicon carbide, a very important industrial application advanced ceramic raw material is prepared from silica and carbon. Silicon carbide exists in two modifications
- Alpha form of hexagonal and rhombohedral poly types.
- Beta form of cubic
Beta silicon carbide is considered as the low temperature phase and it converts into alpha form above 2000.C. However during synthesis of silicon carbide powder the two phases always co exists. Silicon carbide powder is produced by the following methods.
