Plasma Synthesis Process
This process is used for the preparation of ultra fine and pure powder of silicon nitride. This process is very expensive however due to its advantage of producing ultra fine powder followed in most of the industries for producing silicon nitride powder.
In this process through a plasma arc chamber a mixture of SiH4 and NH3 in a controlled proportion is passed over. This generates an amorphous and ultra fine silicon nitride powder.
The powder is then calcined in a special furnace at a temperature of 1450 to 1600.C so as to form silicon nitride powder in alpha form.
