Titanate Powder Preparation

Lead-Zirconate-Titanate Powder Preparation

Sol-gel Method: This method is a novel method of producing ultra fine and pure powder materials of advanced applications. Based on the Sol preparation technique and gel formation it can be classified into four different groups.

In this first method intimate mixture of zirconium iso-propoxide and titanium ethoxide with a complexing agent like either acetic acid or acetyl acetone is mixed with a methanlic solution of lead acetate under continuous stirring operation. The complxing agent retards the hydrolysis and condensation of the alkoxides. By adding water a low viscocity gel is formed which on drying at a temperature of 110.C yields a precursor powder.

The precursor powder formed is calcined in a specially made furnace at about 650.C so as to produce a very fine and pure high surface area Lead-Zirconate-Titanate powder of particle size less than 300 nm.
