Titania Powder Preparation

Barium Titanate Powder Preparation
Complex Precursor Method

By thermal decomposition of barium titanium catecholate precursor, formed from Titanium Chloride and Barium Carbonate and catechol we can produce submicron stoichiometric Barium Titanate powder. The Chemical reaction takes place in two stages as follows.
i) TiCl4 + 3C6H4(OH) 62 ——-> H2Ti(C6H4O2)3 + 4HCl
ii) H2Ti(C6H4O2)3 + BaCO3—-> BaTi(C6H4O2)3(s) + H2O + CO2

Addition of the complex titanium to the boiling suspension of excess Barium carbonate helps the formation of an aqueous solution of BaTi(C6H4O203. The unreacted Barium Carbonate is removed by filtration and freeze drying of the solution.

The barium titanium catecholate precursor calcined at about 600.C for 5 to 6 hours to form barium titanate powder. The particle size of the powder obtained ranges from .02 to .06 micron.
