In batch attritor the maximum feed size of the material can maintained up to 10 mm if the material is more friable in nature. Otherwise we need to reduce the input feed size to less than 10 mesh. Batch attritor are used to process very hard material and for Alumina Powder Preparation it is widely used. High viscosity slurries up to 30000 cps can be process very easily in batch attritors.
In advanced applications a circulation attritor system is used. A circulation attritor system is a combination of an attritor and a holding tank that is generally six to ten times of the size of the attritor. the essential requirement of the system is the circulation pump and its rate of pumping. to achieve efficient grinding the entire contents in the holding tank should be passed through the attritor atleast once in every 5 to 8 minutes.
Due to the rapid speed of pumping the pre mixed slurry is frequently passed through the confined media bed. the grinding media act as a dynamic sieve allowing the fines to pass through quickly, while the coarser particles follow a more tortuous path and are ground finer.
