Alumina Powder Preparation — Attritor Mill

Particle size reduction has undergone many changes. In 1922, Dr.Szegvari hit upon a new idea of using pebble, a drill press, a gallon can and a special agitator desined for the drill bit to achieve a fine dispersed slurry. With in an hour, he invented an apparatus that would produce the exact requirement what he needed. This was the first attritor which is otherwise define as a grinding mill with internally agitator grinding media.

The main distinct feature that makes the attritor a special and more efficient mill compared to other grinding equipments is the power input which is used directly for agitating the grinding media. Where as in other conventional grinding equipments the power is used for rotating or vibrating the large heavy grinding equipment tank apart from the media.

Hence the power consumption for grinding in attritor mill and other ball mill or vibro mill makes lot of difference towards the energy consumed for actual grinding. The most efficient fine grinding takes place when both impact action and shearing force are present.
