11. Test for green strength
The clay to be tested has to be taken out from the bulk supply by ‘Cone and Quarter’ method - the sample to be prepared is around 2 kg. From this master sample take out about 1 kg and soak it in distilled water about 400 ml. After soaking, stir it for few minutes and leave the sample overnight.
- Using the clay slurry, prepare test bars in plaster moulds
- Dry the bars for 1 day in outside ambient atmosphere
- Dry the test bars until the moisture is removed and cool it in a Dessicator.
- Using Bending strength machine, find out the load for breaking
- Express the green strength as per the value obtained by using the formula:
