Water also splits rocks by seeping into cracks and expanding when it freezes. Plants also contribute to the process of disintegration by the action of their roots, which gain foot hold in cracks and when growing, split the rocks into smaller units. Glaciers and windborne particles also cause abrasive effects on the rocks and disintegrate the rocks into smaller pieces.
A characteristic product of grinding by maw of geology is clay. It is the end product of the weathering of rocks as mountains and hills are worn out by water. The resulting material is further ground into much finer particles by the action of water and settles in the water in various particle sizes. After this it is removed and carried by the geological agents to various locations and deposited as clay.
