SELECTION OF SANITARYWARE RAW MATERIALS (..contd)

More than two billion years ago the forces of geologic change began to act upon igneous rocks. Water is the most important agent of geologic change. It literally dissolved incalculable quantities of rock. Water has washed away mountains over a period of millions of years. The presence of estimated fifteen hundred billion tones of salt in the sea gives evidence of the dissolving power of rain water on the earth which has gradually leached out soluble matter from the rocks and carried it to the sea.

In addition to its chemical action as a solvent, water which carries mineral particles as a mechanical effect of abrasion upon rocks. The abrasive effect makes the rocks for chemical disintegration by breaking them into smaller and smaller pieces.
