The common body formulation used all over the world is as follows:
Ball clay ……….. 25% to 28%
China clay ……….. 25% to 24%
Silica ……….. 33% to 35%
Felspar ……….. 17% to 13%
A small amount of cobalt nitrate is mixed with body raw materials to mask the yellow tone of the body raw materials having iron contamination.
The water absorption of the final product varies widely depending upon the amount of fluxing material and the firing temperature.
White wall tiles, vitreous sanitary and sanitary earthenware and electrical porcelain are all made from similar types of bodies and hence can be classified as earthenware types. How ever the recipe varies from factory to factory depending upon the availability of raw materials at local sources.
