Processing Shale

The excavated material is crushed into small chips in a beater mill. It is then subsequently crushed into powder in a Muller and the powder is sieved through a screen. The screened fine powder can be blended with other ceramic raw materials based on the body formulation of individual ceramic bodies. Alternatively these chips from the beater mill can be directly loaded into a ball mill and can be ground in to a fine liquid slurry with addition of water.

The fine ground liquid slurry can be mixed with other body raw materials to prepare different plastic and semi plastic bodies based on the requirement. Alternatively after ball milling the liquid slurry can be filter pressed, dried and mixed with other body raw materials.

In some ceramic industries it is directly mixed with other raw materials along with water in a ball mill and the bodies are prepared according to the requirement. This process is the most economical one and ensures better blending.
