Fusible clay is a variety of clay which relatively fuses at very low temperature and commonly used for making common pottery and tiles. The most common varieties are used for making common bricks. These clays contain very high ratio of free silica and fluxes like lime, iron, soda and potash. These substances form a eutetic compound at very low temperature. The fired colours of the clay varies from red to orange, yellow, brownish or greenish yellow depending upon the proportions of iron compounds and other materials. Most of the clay produces good quality wares when fired at the right temperature. The iron percentage varies from 8 to 10%. Currently floor tiles are made out of these clays only.
