Due to a big demand for building materials all over the world, brick emerged as a very important material and plenty of research and development took place. This particular ceramic field of brick making saw many technical advancements however even today the production of this important ceramic material is done by the potter in the villages which fortunately gives him good returns.
Considering the importance of ‘brick’ as a building material, it is only common that many technical standards were introduced for this ceramic material all over the world. Starting from the raw matrials like clay, sand, lime etc to the shape, size, mechanical properties, chemical properties, weathering properties, environmental impact - a lot of research and difficult study has gone into this.
If we take one peep into the world of bricks research, we will realise it is an ocean by itself and it beholds plenty of secrets that are not visible to our common eye. We think of it as ‘just’ brick made out of clay but it is not.
